What do we do at IRR?

Turning research into better arthritis care is our mission. We support collaborative research to find better ways to prevent, treat and ultimately cure bone and joint diseases. Such so-called musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) affect up to 2,2 million people in Switzerland. For most sufferers there are still no cures or effective treatments. Only more research will find the answers.

The Institute of Arthritis Research has changed its name to Institute of Rheumatology Research. Visitors to our previous website are automatically rerouted to the new one.

The new name is easier to communicate in different languages and is valid with immediate effect.

Professor Cem Gabay, Chairman

IRR is a tax-exempted Swiss registered charity based at Epalinges near Lausanne. It was founded by the late Professor Jürg Tschopp and is now headed by Professor Cem Gabay from the University of Geneva.

Our overall objective is to find ways to prevent, cure and heal arthritis diseases. We also wish to strengthen Switzerland as a centre of Rheumatology research and support the training of young talented scientists.
